Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be Strong and Courageous”

Deuteronomy 31:6 (New International Version)

6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Reflection:

Whenever you feel yourself headed into what seems like hostile territory, be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of those that might hurt you or harass you or humiliate you. The Lord goes with you. There is a higher power watching over you eager to stand with you and stand up for you and protect you. Ultimately whatever those that hate or discriminate or oppress try and do to you or to those you love and care about, the Lord knows what is in their hearts as well as what is in your heart and the hearts of those you care about. He will protect the innocent and bless them and provide treasures in heaven for them.

We must be willing to stand up to the bullies and persecutors though. We must be willing to defend and protect ourselves and those we love against oppression and hatred and discrimination. We must be willing to protect and defend our rights to be seen as equals among all men and women. We cannot show fear or wavering confidence. We must show determination and strength so that we will not be exploited or see our dignity neglected.

We must also be mindful that as we go about our life journeys and spiritual quests to be whole people, we are not on this journey alone and never will be alone. The God that created us will always be with is and always there to provide us strength and courage to carry on our personal missions and goals. Even if we must travel in the shadows of darkness or around the valleys of hate and depression or loneliness, we can be assured that the Lord will guide us and light our way. Good always has a way of triumphing over evil.
